Meet X Shadyside Personal Training client, Alex!
When I first started working with Ethan, I had something really wrong with my back, I just wasn't sure what it was.
We had a few sessions together and I really liked working with him, but I knew I had to get my back taken care of or I wasn't going to be able to fully recognize the benefits that Ethan could offer.
It turned out that I had a badly herniated disc in my lower back that was compressing nerves and causing constant pain throughout my lower back and down my left leg. I had surgery to fix it at the end of February last year and then had to take it easy for a few months. Once I was able to resume physical activity, I was really looking forward to starting back up with Ethan. From the few sessions that I had with him prior to having surgery, aside from the fact that I really liked working with him, I knew that he had the knowledge to help me rehabilitate properly. I was talking to one of the other trainers at the gym recently and they made the comment that Ethan has probably forgotten more about exercise science than most people will ever know. Ethan's knowledge impressed me from the start, but having one of your peers recognize that about you really says a lot.
Anyway, with Ethan's guidance, I not only quickly regained the strength I had lost, but, physically, I felt better than I had in a long time. I tore my ACL playing soccer in college and my knee had always bothered me even after having it repaired. After a few months working with Ethan, I noticed that my knee felt significantly better than it had since I had it repaired 10+ years ago. Once I started seeing these benefits and knowing how much better I felt, it inspired me to try and adopt a healthier lifestyle outside of the gym by paying more attention to my nutrition and the things that I eat. The combination has really paid off and since the start of 2016, I've lost roughly 25 pounds and dropped somewhere between 4% and 5% in body fat, which has been great.
On top of all the health benefits, Ethan and I share a lot of the same interests, so I genuinely look forward to our workouts because, workout aside, I consider him a friend and know that we'll have some good conversation during the time we train together.
Bottom line, I think Ethan is awesome and I will continue to work with him as long as I am able. He's very dedicated to his craft and his clients and I know he's always looking out for our best interests as well as new ways to challenge us. I sincerely appreciate that and feel I have a responsibility to give my best effort when I show up to work with him.
